P&C on Television

>> Thursday, August 26, 2010

Last week, we had the opportunity to work with Amy Nichols a FABULOUS event planner. She was working on a segment for CBS5 in San Francisco, and asked us for some Pizza Party printables. Did I mention this was for television?

Anyway, here is some what she had to say:

~ ~ ~

It is time for a make your own pizza party! This past Saturday, I had the honor of appearing on the CBS5 Eyewitness Morning news in San Francisco to present an idea on an economical kid's birthday party. For the segment, I decided to do a pizza party. My thought was it was good for kids of all ages, as parents can tailor the level of involvement based on the child's age. In addition, rather than having a ton of party games that can get competitive, I came up with activities that would suit kids of multiple ages playing together.

So let's get started with the ideas!

I suggested getting inexpensive aprons from Michaels and letting the kids decorate their aprons before they got started with assembling pizzas. I'd suggest using the craft line from Martha Stewart Crafts or iron-on transfers from Michaels (of course with adult supervision).

It's time to make some pizzas! It is a good idea to start with a pizza peel, especially if you're making several pizzas at the same time. I like this one from Williams-Sonoma, and its also eco-friendly.

To make the assembly part more fun for kids, I love these decor elements from Paper & Cake. I chose to use their tomato sauce label (love it!) and also their small mise-en-place labels for the ingredients. There are many more options from this line, and the collection is now available in Paper and Cake's etsy store!

A party wouldn't be complete without dessert, right? Well no kid is going to opt for fruit instead of a birthday cake, but that doesn't mean you can't make a fruit pizza to offer the kids too. The recipe for this fruit pizza comes from San Francisco Entertains, the new cookbook from the Junior League of San Francisco. The book will be available 10/20 and can be purchased here.

You can't let your guests leave empty-handed, so I suggest sending them home with these adorable pizza cookies -- in both "slices" and "whole pie" shapes. Too cute!  These are from Little Laura's Sweets. Laura will soon be launching her new line, Da*Lish. The cookies are topped with favor labels from Paper & Cake as well.

P&C Real Life Party: End of Summer Party

>> Thursday, August 19, 2010

Did you see this one? Heather from Party Tinkers shares her End of Summer party using our Printable Lemonade collection. The details are fabulous! The only thing missing? My invitation! Here is what she had to say...

~ ~ ~

In honor of my of my oldest daughter starting kindergarten (snif snif) in a week, I decided to throw an End of the Summer Party for her and some of her girlfriends from school. I ordered all of these adorable Lemonade themed customizable printables from Paper and Cake. Here are some photos detailing the guest goody table!

Since black was incorporated into the printable design, I was able to use
some of the items that I had from Catherine's Ladybug Party.

I had seen several other party blogs where mason jars
were used as cups and decided to steal the idea!!

Now, what to do for my next party!!!

P&C Real Life Party: Sail Away Birthday

>> Thursday, August 12, 2010

When Laurie at Busy Bee Birthday Shop sent us some pictures of her son's third birthday party, well we knew instantly we had to share them with everyone!

Laurie used our Sail Away printable party, a ton of creativity and her fabulous Cricut machine, to throw a party her son will never forget. Here is a taste of what she had to say...

Happy Birthday Jake!

We celebrated our sweet son Jake's third birthday with a backyard sail boat party! It was a beautiful, relaxing day full of fun friends {and little swimming pools, a water table, squirt guns and water balloons}. I bought the Sail Away pdf file from paperandcake.com and loved it! For favors, we had a red, white and blue candy bar for all of the guests, along with books for each friend {from the $1 section at Target!} We love you, our silly sweet Jakers!

I used the "Life's a Beach" Cricut cartridge for the front door decoration, as well as the "Jake" banner and lots of little details {sail boats for the candy bags, water bottles, and thank you cards}.

The adorable straws above and red/white polka dot cupcake liners below are from bakeitpretty.com. The cute little straw flags are from the Sail Away collection from paperandcake.com.

The "fish and chips" were really dolphin and whale shaped chicken nuggets with fries!

Thanks for stopping by to check out Jake's party!! Have a great weekend!

Did you see this? Paper & Cake had a television appearance! We were a little worried that the camera would add 10 pounds, but, luckily it's just paper.

Alisa Bangerter of Studio 5 (a morning show in Utah and surrounding areas) put together four of our parties to showcase. And boy did she do a phenomenal job putting them together!

In addition to Paper & Cake, some of our other favorite printable gals were featured... Parties by Hardie, Paper Glitter and The Posh Event.

Does she make it look easy or what? Thanks Alisa!

P&C Real Life Party: Space Birthday

>> Thursday, August 5, 2010

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together? Well, that is exactly what happened when a friend of mine (super mom Andrea, of Four Flights of Fancy,) used our Space Printable Party for her son's birthday party.

Here is a bit of what she wrote on her blog...

Syd's Space Adventure

When we asked Sydney what kind of birthday party he wanted, he firmly replied "A Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Lightning McQueen, Spider Man party". Umm, that may leave our guests feeling a bit schizophrenic, so why not go with the first thing that popped out of your mouth and do Buzz Lightyear? He agreed.

I didn't want to blast the licensed Buzz Lightyear party ware all over the house, so I turned to my friend Abby who designs and sells printable party ware via her company Paper and Cake

You pick your theme, and for a very minimal cost you can have stylish, customizable themed party ware that is fun and festive, and sans the Disney characters splattered all about.

We went with the space theme and Abby was nice enough to even customize the color scheme for me to purple and lime green for Buzz. After choosing our party package, the ideas just started flowing.

Now let me just say that I consider myself about a 6 in the spectrum of party planning. I like to have a color scheme and have the goodie bags and activities all follow along the same theme for the party. But I usually don't get too anal about all the little details. After blogging for some time now, I have seen plenty of over the top Martha-esque type parties, and I'm just not into that extra stress. But with this printable party ware I was able to sort of bump up my skillz a notch and without much extra effort. It may sound like this is a paid endorsement for Paper & Cake, but I promise it's not. I was just really pleased with the way all the extra details came together with ease.

Let's start with the invitation:

Next, the customized banner and garland:

The cupcake wrappers and picks plus the food and drink labels and straw markers (these gals think of everything)

The liquid hydrogen was Tang, the drink of astronauts, and the Saturn's Rings and Asteroids were honey nut O's and peanut butter filled pretzels.

And a little Buzz thrown in for good measure

Finally, the favors were my absolute favorite part.  I made homemade Syd's Space Doh, included packets of individual servings of Tang, and Space Food!

Now in case you're wondering, yes, I did have a good time and I was able to enjoy myself.  Even though all the details were pretty "party perfect", the activities and fun stuff for the kids was very homemade.

Building on the whole space theme, we had 4 stations for the kids:

Moon Sand Table with various space guys

Coloring station with various space and Toy Story pictures I printed up for free on the web

Syd's Space Doh Table, which I was surprised was such a hit with the older kids. I think having it in a big mound as opposed to little jars, and feeling a little different because it was homemade, made it more of a novelty.

And finally, the absolute hit of the party was Syd's handcrafted Space Station that Art built an hour before the party.  Just some cardboard boxes, a couple of old keyboards and monitor, and a routing switch that the kids could plug phone type cords in and out of.  We let them paint it and decorate it however they wanted.  This kept every kid entertained for a while and is still up in our yard 4 days later.

(at some point in the party Buzz turned into Woody)

Oh, and just for good measure, we threw in a Buzz pinata and let the kids whack the heck out of it

"GO SYDNEY GO"

Happy Birthday Bubba!  I hope you enjoyed your party because you're probably not going to get another party like this one for a while!  :)  Love you Syd!
